Nashville released the team logo for their new franchise before a name was selected. The logo depicted a prehistoric cat skull which in 1971 was dug up from ground in the area. Once released to the public ownership opened up a name-the-team contest to find a moniker to go with the image. The results narrowed down the nicknames to Fury, Tigers, Attack, and Predators which was the victor.
