Major League Baseball
How baseball teams got their nicknames.
Today the National League and American League are made up of fifteen teams each split up into three divisions in each league.
The National League is the older of the two leagues, having been founded in 1876. The American League formed twenty-five years later
in 1901. Ever since 1903 the champion of the National League has faced the winner of the American League in the World Series to decide
who is baseball's champion.
The two leagues are not geographical based, but rather there are teams from both leagues on both coasts, and in numerous cities inbetween. The
American League has taken sixty-three versus the National League's forty-seven World Series titles. Each league contains a five team West, Central, and
East division.
