An interesting tidbit about the famed Dallas Cowboys is that they had a few names before they finally settled on the Cowboys as their
nickname. Before any owner was found for the new Dallas franchise that was created by the NFL, the team was tagged the Steers by the league. However,
the team's first GM, Tex Schramm, didn't think that naming a football team after a castrated bovine was such a hot idea. Insert Cowboys joke here.
So instead of Steer, Schramm went with Rangers which was also the name of the local AAA minor league ball team. After mulling that around for
awhile, it was decided by the new Dallas football brass that having a baseball team and football team in the same market with the same name might cause
a bit of confusion. Insert Texas joke here. For whatever reason, Schramm decided to go with Cowboys because, well, Dallas Cowboys just has a catchy ring
to it.
