Carolina Panthers

Carolina joined the NFL in 1995 along with the Jacksonville Jaguars as two new expansion teams. Other locations considered at the time for new teams were St. Louis, Baltimore, and Memphis. Team owner Jerry Richardson's son Mark is the one who tagged the new team the Panthers as well as decided on the black, blue and silver color scheme.

Mark explained that he chose the Panthers as the new moniker because "it's a name our family thought signifies what we thought a team should be—powerful, sleek and strong."
