Atlanta Falcons

Shortly after Atlanta was awarded an NFL franchise, a local radio station held a "name-the-team" contest to drum up interest and generate a new moniker. Over 500 unique names were submitted including Vibrants, Confederates, Firebirds, and Peaches. Many entries contained the victor name Falcons, and I'd say that's probably better than naming a football team the Atlanta Peaches.

The schoolteacher who was credited with winning the contest gave the reason for choosing the Falcon was because "the falcon is proud and dignified with great courage and fight." That may be true, but a peach is super delicious.
