New York Rangers

George "Tex" Richard was awarded a NHL club in 1926 and had intended to name his team the New York Giants, which would have been a nod to the skyscrapers soaring into the sky. Before his name took hold, the press started calling the team "Tex's Rangers" which was referencing the famous police force in Texas. The moniker stuck and they became the New York Rangers.
