Washington Wizards

This franchise was once known as the Washington Bullets since their time located in Baltimore, and after their relocation to Washington, D.C. in 1963. In 1996 Abe Pollin, team owner at the time, decided a change of nickname was in order due to what he thought was his team's nickname endorsing a violent image which he didn't condone.

As it is in many cases of naming a team, a name the team contest was created in which fans were able to vote on the final choices which included Express, Sea Dogs, Stallions, Dragons and Wizards. As we can clearly see, Wizards came out victorious.
