Ottawa Senators

The original Ottawa Senators, who also were known as merely the Ottawa Hockey Club, played from 1883 until 1934 and won eleven Stanley Cups during that period. When Ottawa received a new NHL franchise in 1990, starting play in 1992, ownership decided to revive the Senators moniker for the new team. Senators was originally chosen because Ottawa is Canada's capital city.
