New Jersey Devils

When the Colorado Rockies hockey club relocated to New Jersey in 1974, the team badly needed a new name considering there are no mountains in Jersey. New Jersey Rockies was not an option. The team was named after the mythical Jersey Devil which is a half man, half beast critter that is rumored to inhabit the Pine Barrens of South Jersey.
