Toronto Raptors

When Toronto was awarded an expansion franchise in 1994, the ownership group conducted extensive polling across Canada to get the people's perspective on what the new name should be. Some of the finalist included Dragons, Bobcats, Hogs, and Beavers.

However, there was a popular movie out at the time which seemingly swayed the good Canadian people. That movie? Jurassic Park. And so the Raptors name won the popular vote, which somehow explains that goofy cartoon dinosaur dribbling a basketball they have as a logo today.
