Sacramento Kings

The Sacramento Kings began their history as the Rochester Royals back in the National Basketball League. They relocated to Cincinnati in 1957 keeping the Royals name, but decided to change it when they moved to Kansas City in 1972 as that town already had a baseball team with the same name.

A name-the-team contest left them with a different royal moniker, this time the Kings. Not to stay in one place too long, the team moved to Sacramento in 1985 where they decided to stick with the Kings name.
