L.A. Lakers

Here we go with the team nickname that would certainly be a unanimous vote into the fictional Team Nicknames That Make No Sense hall of fame. The Los Angeles Lakers started out as the Minneapolis Lakers back in 1947. This makes sense. There are actually lakes in Minnesota. Over 10,000 of them.

The team moved to Los Angeles in 1960 and decided it would be too much bother to come up with a name that actually made sense for their geographical location. I can get behind the idea that the ownership wanted to maintain the strong tradition that the great Minneapolis Lakers teams had built up, so there's some method to the madness there I guess.
