Walter Brown was the founding owner of the Boston Celtics in 1946, and he put himself in charge of naming his new franchise. No name-the-team contest for him like so many others go with. What could possibly go wrong? Well not much here as the Celtics is a pretty sweet name.

But that's not the complete story. Besides the Celtics, Brown was kicking the tires on other names such as the Whirlwinds, Olympians, and wait for it, wait for it, the Unicorns. Something tells me Boston wouldn't have become the basketball hallowed ground it is today if they would have started out as the Boston Unicorns. Just a hunch.
