Boston Red Sox

So a team called the Red Sox must have always worn, well red socks right? Au contraire mon frère. They began their existence in blue stockings, and were not called the Red Sox - for good reason. They were originally called a variety of names including the Americans, and sometimes simply the Bostons. But there was a Boston Red Sox team at that time - just not them. There was a National League team at the same time playing in Boston as the Red Sox, the team that later became the Boston Braves.

The National League Boston Red Sox decided to change their uniforms to all white in 1907 and call themselves the Doves. Apparently the American League team always like how those red stockings looked on their cross league rival because they snatched up the moniker and also wore red stockings to complete the effect.
